IPKISs ASSOf!IAUON.I PERTH, 12th June. In congratulating Mr. Justice Booth I (an English barrister), on taking his seal on the Supreme Court bench, the Hon. Richard Pennefather expressed regret that the appointment had not been made from the Bar of the State. He served' four years as Attorney-General, and then accepted a temporary appointment (tndei promise that it would be confirmed. After eight months of hard ivork,' he received information that his services were no longer required, and that the Government had no intention of confirming' the appointment. (Received June 13, 9.16 a.m.) PERTH, This Day. The Leaks Government declined to con- j firm its predecessor's view with respect to the appointment of Mr Pennefather to the bench.
Mr. Pennefather wes called to the Bar in 1876. He was Attoi ney-General of Western Australia from 1097 to 1901, and Acting-Judge of the Supreme Court until 1902, when he resumed practice at the Bar. Mr. Pennefather is 55 years of age.
