i CONCESSIONS IN THE RAILWAY SERVICE. . Tbt tbi,eora:tb: — pkess association.! TIMARU, 4th April. A banquet was held to-night by the Timaru Branch of the Amalgamated Sobriety of Railway Servants to celebrate the concession of the eight hours system to railway servants. It ivas attended by the Premier and the Minister of Public Works. The Premier in his speech referred chiefly to concessions to railway men and to U'ser.'.i of railways. He s-tated that the Government was working in the direction of having all locomotives made in the Government workshops. He praised the service for its reliability and .safety. Incidentally he referred to combines of tho smaller local sort that kept up the price of food, such as butcher's meat and fish, and hinted at Government meat and fis-h shops.
