FATAL ACCIDENT AT KILBIRNIE.
About a quarter past 11 o'clock this morning a quantity of earth and clay fell unexpectedly in a cutting which is being made on Wellington-road, Kilbirnie, near the top of Constable-street, in connection with the lowering of those thoroughfares. A young man named Ernest Charles Bourne, belonging to Homer-street, was partly buried in the debris, and one of his mates was bruised about the legs by some of the fallen material. Bourne was dug out with all expedition, but it was -found that he was dead His back was broken — evidently by a lump of clay which had rolled down from the face. Drs. Cameron and Kemp were summoned, but they were unable to do anything for the unfortunate man. The deceased— who was about 22 years of age, was one of thirteen men employed in - the cutting, his father being amongst the number. The body has been removed to the Morgue, | where an inquest will be held to-iaor-I row.
