AUSTRALIA'S IMMIGRATION LAWS.
REPRESENTATIONS FROM JAPAN. [press association.! MELBOURNE, 20th October. Replying to a question in the House of Representatives this e'.ening, Mr. Deakin, the Federal Prime Minister, stated that negotiations were proceeding with the Japanese Consul-General in reference to the Immigration Restriction Act. The Government was considering if it was possible to restate the general principles of Australia's restriction policy — without altering its substance—so as to meet the susceptibilities of the Japanese.
