THE COMING ELECTIONS.
A meeting of Mr. P.. J. O'Regan's election committee is to be held in the Druids' Hall this evening, when the candidate is to give an address. Jlrs. O'Regan also invites her husband's lady supporters to meet her in the Druids' Hall, this evening. On Saturday night a No-License meeting was held in the Newtown school ground. The Rev. J. Cocker was in charge of the proceedings, and addresses ■were delivered by the Rev. W. A. Evans, Mr. ft. L. Thomas, and Mr. Hart, of Perth, West Australia. •' The speakers strongly appealed to those present to win back the electorate to No-License, laying emphasis upon the fact that even if the poll was upset in the law Courts provision had been made in the recent legislation for another poll to be taken. It is intended to hold these meetings weekly. Mr. G. London will -address Hutt electors at the Oddfellows' Hall, Petone, to-moirow evening. Mr. J. Thorn, the Political Labour League's candidate for Christchurch South, who addressed the electors on Friday night, was accorded a unanimous vote of thanks and confidence. ■Mr. J. D. Sievwright, a Wellington journalist, has declined nomination at the present juncture as a candidate for the Oamaru seat.' As, however, after the election he expects to see a reconstruction of the Ministry and the retirement and elevation to the Upper House ! 6f the Hon. T. Y. Duncan, Mr. Sievwright intimated that- he would place his services at the disposal of the Oamaru electors. In .the Salvation Army Citadel, Vivianstreet, on Sunday afternoon, Mr. ' H. D. Bedford, M.H.R. , addressed a large audience pn "The Evil Effects of Drink and Gambling." Mr. J. G. W. Aitken, M.H.R., occupied the chair, whilst Mr. Hawkins, M.H.R., also had a seat on tho platform, and spoke on the subject of tho afternoon. Mr.' Bedford's address extended over fifty minutes, and he received a very attentive hearing. Although admitting the drink traffic to be a great crime, the lecturer considered it to be only one of the many evils to be combatted in the interests of our colony. The gambling evil came in for its share of unfavourable criticism. Altogether ihe gathering was very successful. The Men^s Brass Barid contributed' a musical selection. In the Appeal Court this afternoon hewing of the case of Hankins v. the King was concluded. Judgment was reBerved. , Whilst crossing from the hulk Occident w> the hulk Ottolina at Jervois-qn«y yesterday, Nellie Keegan, the ten-year-old daughter of Patrick Keegan, keeper of the Occid*n v , fell down the hold of the Ottolina, a distance of 26 feet: Her face ■was bruised, and one of her legs broken* Her injuries are being treated in the Hospital. Today Edith Elizabeth Harvey, gro cer, Wellington, was rdjudicated a feinkrupt. A meeting of 'her creditors is to be held at the office of the Official Aslignee next Friday. " !
