MISS NANCE" O'NEIL IN "MAGDA." Miss Nance O'N«il, the American tragedienne, who .won much popularity in New Zealand dining- her-tour four years ago, opens he/.Tecond'tdur. of the colony at the Opera "HouseVtnis evening in Sudermann's" great, playy "Magda." Mis 3 O^Neil will be supported by several players who are making their debut in New Zealand, including .Misses Jane Marbury and P. Bloodgood, Messrs. J7 Glendinning, A. Kobson, and G. Friend. Mr. M'Kee Rankin, under whose direction the plays are being produced during the season, tv ill appear as Col. Schwartze this evening. "Magda," in which Miss O'Neil takes the name part, is to give way on Saturday evening to "Marie Antoinette," and there will be no other opportunity of seeing "Magda," as the tour is in the nature of a flying visit. His Excellency the Governor and Lady Plunket intend witnessing to-night's performance, und a bumper house is assured for the welcoming of Jliss O'Neil und the strong company with which Mr. J. C. Williamson has surrounded her for the New Zealand tour. FULLER'S ENTERTAINERS. The programme which is being presented this week at His Majesty's iheutre by Fuller's Entertainers continues to attract large ' attendances nightly, with laughter and applause as the reward for the performers. The diversions of the JJriscoll Bros., the comedy produced by Mr. Fred Graham and Miss ' Nellie Dent, the fiie-eating proclivities of Olrac, the "Fire King," and the varied vocal and daucing contributions of other members of the company help to make up a more than usually interesting entertainment, which will be repeated this evening. The Primitive Methodist Church, Webbstreet, was packed to the doors last night, the attraction being a concert organised as a means of providing flunds for a widow and her family. ' The financial result was the handsome sum of £30. The chair was occupied by Mr. G. Laurenson, M.H.R., and the contributors to the programme were Mesdames Reed and Grant, Misses Castle and Hawthorne, and Messrs. 1 H. S. Sivell, M'Cornish, and G. Petherick. A large choir of children also assisted, Mr. Ernest Dawson being the conductor, with Mi.<=s Bullock at the piano. The lecture-hall of the Newtown Public Library was packed ,to its doors last night by residents 'from all parts of the city who had gathered ' to hear Professor Maclaurin's lecture on. "Comets." The lecturer dealt with a highly scientific • subject in a most interesting and instructive manner, and the lantern pictures added greatly to the interest of the Professor's remarks In moving a. vote of thanks to the lecturer, Councillor Hindmarsh remarked upon the large number of people who had atfinded the lectures given under the ausices of the City Council during the past month, and added that at times the Newtown hill had not been large enough to accommodate the patrons. Responding ,to the vote of thanks, Professor Maclaurin said Wellington Should bo equipped with a national observatory and a really good municipal telescope for the study of astronomy.
