In the Assembly to-day, Mr. Broughton presented a petition, said to contain forty thousand signatures, against the Liquor Bill, on the ground that it does not provide for compensation for loss of licenses. Discussion on the Bill is proceeding. A majority of the speakers expressed themselves as being favourable to the general principle of the measure. A stiff fight is promised over the compensation question.
