FREEMASONRY.

[BY TEJ EGHAPH. — PRESS ASSOCIATION.] DUNEDIN, 7th September. An important Masonic event took place to-night, when Lodge Otago Kilwinning, Scottish constitution, met for the first time in lodge as No. 143, New Zealand Constitution, M.W.Q.M. Bro. Burton presided, and in an address said the gross annual income of the New Zealand Grand Lodge was now £3500. Since its inception £10,000 had been distributed to those in need, and annuities were given in seven deserving cases. They heard rumours that a small minority of Otago -Kilwinning Lodge proposed to carry on a lodge in that name, and threats were darkly uttered as to leg-il proceedings. He thought such threats loolish, nnd he hoped brothren of eminence would interpose, and overrule the unconsidered action of the less wise. The lodge was then duly constituted under the New Zealand charter.
