ZIEGLER EXPEDITION RESCUED. THE SHIP AMERICA CRUSHED. IMESS ASSOCIATION.! CHRISTIANIA, 11th Augusb. M. Fiala, and the oilier members of tho Zioglor expedition, iv Jiicli &ot out in June, 1903, to endeavour to determine Iho position of the noith magnetic polo, were rescued nt Franz Josef Land (an archipelago, north of Novd Zombla, discovered on 31s* August, 1873, by tho Austrian navigators Pfiyor nnd Weyprecht, "and explored by tliem from March to May of the following year) by the Terra. Nova — one of the Discovery expedition relief ships, and commanded by Cnptain Kjeldscn. Tho expedition hns arrived afc Honiiingßvag, Norway. M. Fiala s ship, the America, was crushed by ice, and foundered at Nep litz Bay, 1904. Throo attempts to roach high latitude failed. Tho highest point reached by M. Fiahi was 82 degrees 13 minutes.
