. THE SHOPS ASO OFFICES ACT AIUIN. AN EXECUTIVE'S DECISIONS. A meeting of the executive of the New iealaud Shopkeepers' Association w«s leld yesterday afternoon. A letter w;<s received fiom the Cynteriury Shop Protective Association (Christ1 I'.urch), btating that 414 shopkeepers, lejreienting all trades in the city, hud jgned a petition praying for the repeal if clause o, 'and tuat about 90 per cent, if the shopkeepers of Chrislchurch weio .nxious thai the clause should be repealed. As a result of this discussion several resolutions were adopted. On the motion jf Me&rs. Jones and Oakes, it was re»olv>d: "luat this meeting of the Exceutive Jommittee of the New Zealand Shopkeepsiy' Association representing Auckland, Juristchurch, Uunedin, and Wellington is .n accord with section 2, but that the new clauses in section 3a are disagreed with, on the grounds that the houis of employment ot Shop Assistants are already defined under section 4 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1904." Kesolved, on the motion of Messrs. Inglia and Oakes : "That clause 21 of the principal Act should be repealed." Kesolved, on the motion of 'Messrs. Jones and Millington : '"That, failing tho repeal of clause 21, Mr. W. H. P. Barber, M..tf.R., be asked to move au amendment to the principal Act by adding tho •words 'three-fifths' before the word 'majority' in the first line." It was resolved, on tho motion of Messrs. Baylis and Ross: "That, seeing it is proposed by the Government to repeal clause 3, and that the new clauses iv section 3a, in the amendment of the Act by the Labour Bills Committee, are disagreed with, this association considers tnat the second schedule is unnecessary, and should be deleted." Copies of the foregoing resolutions are to be sent to the Premier.
