The principal event resulted as follows: — Caulfield Grand National Hurdle Race, of 1200 soys ; 900 soys to go to the first horse, 200 soys to the second, and 100 soys to tho third. Conqueror 9.3, Mercury 9.3, Scientist 9.0. Betting— 6 to 1 against York, 13 to 2 Adjuster, 8 to 1 Mannont, 20 to 1 Tho Toiler. When the field settled down, York was in. front, followed by Loch Lochie, Marmont, and Adjuster. Excepting that Adjuster ran into second place, and The Toiler into fourth, there was little change in the positions the- first time round. Adjuster was on York's heels entering j the straight the eeijond time ; then came The Toiler, Mftrmont, and Valour. At the back York was still racing along in front, a length clear of The Toiler, who, in turn, was two lengths ahead of Mormon*. When approaching the straight, York drew away further from The Toiler, and, crossing the lqst obstacle safely, Tan homo an easy winner by four lengths, Marmont being six lengths behind The Toiler.
