N.S.W. LAND REVELATIONS.
WARRANTS FOR ARRESTS. [PBESS ASSOCIATION.] SYDNEY, sth August. As an outcome of evidence given before the Lands Commission in connection with.' J. B. Stephens's conditional purchases, Senior-Sergeant M'Lean, on behalf of the Crown law authorities, to-day obtained warrants for the arrest of W. N. Willis, Hoskins (station manager for Willis), and E. M'Nair (Willis's confidential clerk) on a charge of conspiring to make use of Stephens in taking up a conditional purchase, thus defrauding tha Government of divers large sums of money. Hoskins and M'Nair were arrested at Willis's office, and bailed out in £400 each. Willis is expected to reach Durban in a. day or two, and will probably be arrested on arrival. A writing expert has testified that the signature of Stephens on a document produced is evidently a forgery. Mr. Haynes (publisher of the Newsletter) applied to the Court for warrants for the arrest of Willis and Melville on a charge of conspiracy, and also for a warrant for the arrest of Willis on a charge of dummying. The Magistrate refused to issue the warrants.
