He announced himself as an Independent. He &pok« in favour of periodic revaluation of leases in perpetuity, whilst conserving the rights of present lessees. In connection with the riot in town on the night of Saturday, Bth July, Robert Harness and William Fisher wero charged at the Magistrate's Court to-day with obstructing the" police ; Edward Johnston and Stanley Walter Binns with inditing persons to obstruct the police ; Thomas Morrah and Frederick Kerr with inciting prisoners to resiit while in legal custody. Decisions were reserved till tomorrow afternoon. The case against Frank Berry of inciting a prisoner to resist was adjourned sine die, defendant being ill. J. R. Charfton, M.R.C.V.S., has telegraphed to the Premier, with regard to the Veterinary Surgeons Registration Bill now before the House, protesting that it b diametrically opposed to the best interests of stock-owners and veterinary surgeons, and urging that the opinion of the Council of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeon* shonld be obtained on the proposed legislation. He draws attention to the Imperial Act of 1881, v/herein the uncertificated existing practitioners' problem is simply solved without the creafcwi of muitjelo anomalies.
