PARLIAMENT.
YESTERDAY'S SITTINGS. LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. The Council was occupied for over an hour yesterday in discussing Sir G. M. O'Rorke's motion in favour of expressing an. opinion favourable to a reversion to the old Provincial system of Government, and after an amendment by the Hon. W. Bolt in favour of setting up a committee to confer with, a committee of the House to enquire into the desirability of such a proceeding had been rejected, the motion was lost on the voices. AN AUCKLAND BILL. The Council went into Committee on the Jubilee Institute for the Blind (Auckland) Bill, and progress was reported to enable the Attorney-General to bring down a new clause. TAEANAKI SCHOLARSHIPS. j The second reading of the Taranaki Scholarships Bill was moved by the Attorney-General, who said that there had been land set aside in Taranaki prior to 1868 for education endowments, and the Act proposed to use the proceeds for promoting higher education in the district. The second reading was agreed to. v EGMONT NATIONAL PARK. On the Attorney-General's motion the Egmont National Park Bill (which is a purely consolidating measure) was read a second time, and tne Council rose at 4.10 p.m. '
