TRAMWAY TO KILBIRNIE. VARIATION OF ROUTE. ACTION BY THE CITY COUNCIL A long meeting of the Finance and Tramway Committees of the' City Council was held yesterday afternoon, -when an important alteration in the route up to the mouih of the proposed tunnel on the Kilbirnie tramway extension was decided! upon. The Order-in-Council provides for a line up Elizubeth-street (from Kent-terrace) to Brougham-street, along Broughamstreet to Queen-street, across Austinstreet, with a curve into Rixon-grove (where private properties would have t° ba purchased), thence on to a tunnel through the Town Belt. In order to avoid the curves on such a route it has now been decided to take the line straight up Pirie-stfeet to a tunnel at the top of that thoroughfare Application is to be made at once to vary the Order-in-Council, and it is expected that no difficulty will be experienced in obtaining the necessary amendment.
