fBY TELEGRAPH. — PRESS ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. , • The city authorities have laid an information against the Williamson Dramatic Company for overcrowding the Theatre Royai on Wednesday and Thursday. The sum of £100 has been subscribed towards a fund for the establishment of a Pipe Band in Ashburton. Should the project to instal gas at Rangiora be carried out, the proposal will be made to erect new municipal chambers, and provide increased office accommodation, and utilise the present building for fire brigade purposes. The police aro making enquiries for an old man named William Milne, who left his home at Riccarton on Monday last, and has not since been heard of by his relatives. The man is 84 years of age. The supply of eggs increased rapidly during tho last week, and the price of fresh eggs has fallen to Is 2d per dozen. Many complaints have been made that chilled eggs are being sold as fresh. The Tramway Board is using the old tramcars. One car for the electric line is made out of two old cars, and used successfully as a trailer behind the electric car, thus doubling the passenger-carrying capacity. Battues are now very frequent in mid Canterbury, hares having increased alarmingly. At Dunsandel last week over 600 were killed by 60 guns, and on Friday 120 killed by seven guns. The Ashburton County Council is also taking steps to destroy hares wholesale. Rabbits aro also increasing on the Port Hills.
