QUEENSLAND.
Speaking on the general question of adTertising the State, the Premier said he thought the best means of advertising the State was to show that it was paying its way. It was useless to attempt to persuade persons that the State was a good ono if deficits were being piled up. Tho State Treasurer has reconsidered the whole question of the surplus and the amount to bo returned, to Civil Servants, as promised when the special Retrenchment Act was renewed last year. Mr. Kidston has decided to return to the Public servants the whole amount of the surplus, l-ateably in proportion to the amount contributed under the Retrenchment Act. The Queensland Minister for Lands has informed the Victorian settlers that the new Land Bill will allow a discount when payments are completed within twenty years,. When the Logic Plains land has been dealt with the Queensland Government will make another area of 150,000 acres available for selection. In the course of an interview between the Victorian settlers and tho Minister for Lands, the Minister stated that the Land Bill to be introduced during the coming session would allow a discount to bo given when the lands wore paid for at an earlier date than twenty years. He also said that 150,000 acres of Jinghi Jinghi, between Jondaryn and The Range, would be dealt with in order to make it available for selection as soon aa the Logic Plains land had been dealt with. Referring to the roads, on the Logic Plains areas the Minister, though he made no promise, said ifc was quite on the cards that there would be a railway constructed from Warra to Jondoaie.
