There is a good attendance at the second day of the Winter Meeting, which is being held in fine weather. .The course is in fair condition. Wet ■Reef got well away, with Mataiku on his quarters. Tonderghie moved slowly, and Coxswain was left at the post. The Gold Eeef gelding led to the straight, where Tonderghie moved up, and after a good go, with whips out, Wet Reef won by less than half a length. Good Intent finished fourth. Passing it-he stand, Jack o' Lantern was clear of the others, who wer-e- led Tby Rongoa. In the second time past ths stand Nor'west moved up, and the pace was'cracked on, but Jack o' Lantern was missing, bo having struck th© sod wall. Defoe took up the running, and JSTor'-west ran ihead to head -wifoh Eongoa. The Dauber tailed off to nothing when, a mils and three-quarters was traversed, and soon afterwards Rongoa, was beaten. They took the last hurdles together, and Defoe'a "victory was proclaimed, but his struggles had pumped him out. 'Nor' -west raced even with him for a hundred yards or so, drew away at the grandstand, and eventually won. by five lengths; Eongoa somewhere in 4he distance. Time, smin 25sec.
