INVENTOR AND CONJURER.
Sir Hiram S. Maxim writes a pathetic letter from Nict* to the Pans edition of tho Now York Herald. Ho relates that a few nights ago a conjuror asked that some ono should give him n watch, what ho wished to rto was to smash tho winch and return i!, intact to the owner. "I very fonlwhlv handed him mine whirh was a* very high-priced one, and had beon csnouaily inudo fur me in .Swiuerlnnd. Tho first part of tho experiment biicreedod admirably, but tho last part \yas a total failure; notwithstanding all the professor's skill, tho watch persisted in remaining in a smashed condition, and is at ill a smashed and worthless watch. Moral : If you havo n valuable, watch, don't lend it to a juggler."
