THE 810-TABLEAU. The oxcellonco of tho cinematograph wtortiumwnt now on yiow at tho Opera House is fully appreciated, as testified to by tho overflowing audiences. Last night tho house was filled in overy part, and people were turned away for want of space. Prominent among tho ippreciativo gathoring wore a large number of Chinamen, somo of whom had truvolled miles to see glimpses of the Kast ami tho wild doings therein. Thoro was infinite variety of subject in tho programme, comedy and tragedy, pathos »nd humour, all being represented in tho films. Indeed, ono or two pictures wore almost too gruesome. Tho kinematograph is certainly tho very ploasantest mode of education one can imagine, and Mr. J. C. Williamson may bo considered a public benefactor. To-night will bo tho last chanco to see tho present programme, for to-morrow thero will be another set of pictures shown. Saturday ia tfto last night of tho season. THE GILBERT AND SULLIVAN REVIVAL. The season of revivals of Gilbert and Sullivan operas is already causing a great amount of interest. Tho management's decision to open tho season in Wellington with tho delightful aosthetic work "Pationco," is a wise one, as it in sovoral years sinco this opera was presented, and it will thus como as quite » new production. By tho Moeraki, which arrived from Sydnoy yesterday, a largo consignment of sconcry and effects came to hand for tho oponing production. Each opera is to bo presented on a very lavish scale. Tho company's niccoss during the entiro Sydney season, which terminated last week, has eclipsed all former occasions. Sovcral now laces will ho seen in connection with this combination, which includes Miss Dolly Castles, Miss Crlia Ohtloui, Miss Vina Do Loitto, Miss Aggio Thorn, Miss Ruby Armficld, !Vfr. frank Wilson, Mr. Charles Kenningham, Mr. 11. H. Wallace, Mr. J. Ralston. Mr. Walter Whyte, and Mr. Howard Vcrnon. Tho company will comprise about eighty people, including, it is stated, tno finost chorus Mr. Williamson has over sent out on tour. Tho box-plan opens next Monday morning at 9 o'cldcx at Hid Dresden. HIS MAJESTY'S THEATBE. Largo audiences <iro tho rulo nt this popular place of entertainmont, and the varied and interesting programme is much appreciated. Thero will be a. chango of programme on Saturday night. SALVATION ARMY DEMONSTRATION. Lieut. -Colonol Gilmour, Commanding Officer of the Salvation Army in New Zealand, arrived from North at noon today, and is to conduct rt united band* and young people's demonstration in tho Vivian-street Citadel to-nighfc in connection with the local harvest festival. Thi» festival is being conducted on a large scale this yenr, the Oitadel being convorted for the time being into a wheat Jlo'd. which L« to bo harvested to-morrow Rvening by tho lassie harvesters, with limelight effects. A special featoro of to-morrow night's programme is to be the wreathing of the cross, Mftjor Albiston will ussist the Colonel this evening. A gardon party is to b<j held in connection with harvest festival celebrations at St. Anne's, Porirua. Special sorvices will bo held in the Church on Sunday, nnd the garden party will tako place at the grounds of Brother Mutter's residence. Despite tho threatening weather last evening a fair nnmber of pleasure-seek-ers journeyed across to Day s Bay, whoro a successful concert was givon in tho pavilion by Mrs. J. P. Fonnell, Misses M. Wilson, N. Simpson, and Messrs. Fennel!, Laing, Power, and J. W. Black. Tho party returned to tqwn at The office staffs of the Corporation hold their picnio to-morrow.
