French advices received from St. Petersburg state that General Linevitch, in command of the Russian division, retreated precipitately before superior numbers of i>he Japanese. The transport, of Russian troops to the front has been greatly delayed. A brigade leaving Odessa in December has only just reached Omsk (formerly capital of West Siberia, now capital of Akmolinsk province).
