PUBLIC SCHOOLS' TENNIS.

ANNUAL CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING Tho third annual championship meeting of the Public Schools will be held at the Brougham Hill courts on the mornings of the 10th and 17th insts. The number of entries are as follows : — Girls' singles 31, girls' doubles 22, boys' singles 14, boys doubles 5, combined 16, making a total of 88. Eight schools are represented, with entries as follows : — Terrace 34, Clyde-quay 21, Te Aro 14, Thorndon 8, Petone 6, Pahiatua 3, Rintoul-street 1, Horokiwi 1. The Te Aro School is the champion school, and holder of the "Ferguson" Challenge Cup given for the school scoring most points. It is proposed to hold the finals on the afternoon of the 17th inst., with the permission of the Brougham Hill Club. The play of the children has improved vastly this last year, and most interesting games are expected. Mr. C. Watson, Headmaster of the Te Aro School, has worked the ! meeting up in a most energetic manner, and it is to be hoped that any tennis player who can spare the time on Saturday mornings will attend and assist .as umpires. The Mayor is to be asked to present the prizes on the completion of the tournament.
