A force of Cossacks surprised Japanese who were shelling Putiloff (lately known as "Lonely Hill"), but were compelled to retire after an unsuccessful attempt to take a battery. RAILWAY LINE BLOWN UP. ! (Received December 7, 7.37 a.m.) LONDON, 6th December. Chunchuses blew up a portion of the railway line between ivharbin and Mukden. A train had a narrow escape. The damage has been repaired. RED CROSS DEPOT BURNED. (Received December 7, 7.37 a.m.) LONDON, 6th December. A large Red Cross depot at Mukden has been burned.
