. 4 Mrs. Wallis, of Bishopscourt, Wellington, is on a visit to Rotorua. The Attorney-General (Hon. Colonel Pitt)- returned from Nelson to-day. The Minister for Railways, Sir J. Ward, will leave for the South about the end of the week. Mr. Orton Stevens, Mayor of Lower flutt, who has been ill for some time past, is making slow progress towards the recovery of his wonted health. Mr. R. S. Rounthwaite has just returned from an inspection of the Pohangina River at Raumai. He is to report to the County Council on river protection works. Out of seventeen applicants for the position on the Petone Borough Council rendered vacant by the resignation of Mr. A. E. Carter, Mr. Harold Parkinson has been appointed. The Minister for Lands (Hon. T. Y. Duncan) will probably leave Wellington to-morrow for Hawkes Bay for the purpose of inspecting the Mount Vernon Estate. The Chief Health Officer (Dr. Mason) went south last night, on his way to Timaru to confer with the Hospital Board on the subject of the establishment of a hospital for infectious diseases. Mr. W. E. Nichols, cashier at Te Aro House, was presented with a handsome set of silverware from his fellow-em-ployees on Saturday last. v Presents were alao made by the directors and the management, and Mr. Nichols was congratulated upon his approaching marriage. His Excellency the Governor is to visit Wanganui on the 14th inst., and will be given a public reception in the Motua Gardens. On the 15th he will distribute the prizes at the Wanganui Collegiate School and review the public sohool cadets on the racecourse, and on the 16th he will distribute the prizes at the District High School and St. John's Infant School. t There was a large attendance of members of the Excelsior Lodge of Druids at the meeting last night. During the evening the Secretary (Bro. F. Jennings), on behalf of the Lodge, presented a gold sovereign case suitably inscribed, to Dr. Ernest Rawson, on the occasion of his resignation of the post of medical officer. Dr. Rawson, who had served the Lodge for 23 years, suitably acknowledged the presentation.
