[PBESS ASSOCIATION.! WANGANUI, sth December. A poll was taken to-day on proposals by the Borough Council to raise two loans, viz., £15,000 for gasworks extension and £11,000 for street improvements, drainage, etc. Little interest was taken in the poll, only some 500 votes being recorded. Both proposals were carried. WESTPORT, stlf December. Further search by residents of town and country have failed to reveal any trace of the missing clergyman, the Rev. Gold Smith. ASHBURTON, sth December. The Domain Board to-night granted the use of portion of the Domain to Seventh Day Adventists for a fortnight in February next, to hold a conference. DUNEDIN, sth December. The Shops and Offices Act was mentioned at South Dunedin Borough Council by one member, who considered that the Council would have to meet in the afternoon in future. The May^pr said they cuuld wait until they received notification from an inspector. Owing to the steady increase of pupils under the Government scheme of free places, and the lack of adequate a,ccommodalion at the Girls' High School, the Board of Governors has decided to close the boarding establishment in connection with the schools, and utilise the rooms as class-rooms.
