WOMEN'S CHRISTIAN TEMPERANCE UNION.

<, . WELLINGTON'S ANNUAL MEETING. The Wellington centre of the Women's Christian Temperance Union, which has, been in existence about twenty years, held its annual meeting in the rooms in Con-stable-street, Newtown, yesterday afternoon. In the absence of the President for New Zealand (Mrs. A. R. Atkinson), Mrs. Boiall occupied the chair, and there was a fair attendance of members and sytnpatbisers. The annual report, presented by the Secretary (Miss Kelly) stated that good wofk had been going on quietly throughout the year. The regular departmental features had been Avell maintained. The box, of literature kept in the ladies' wait-ing-room at tho Thorndon railway station had been in constant use. Members of the union had visited the Hospital regularly, and the piano provided at that institution by the union had proved a great help in the work, The Home for the Aged Needy had also been regularly visited, and this feature of members' work was much appreciated. The union now had 105 members. The Newtown Girls' Asi'oc'ia/tion, which is a very useful branch of the union's work, had been carried on efficiently under the direction of Mrs. Boxall. Ij was stated that the association would gladly welcome at its rooms girls who were strangers to Wellington. Girls are frequently assisted in obtaining situations by the officers of the association. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: President, Mrs. (Dr.) Chappie ; Vice-Presidents, Mesdames Bond, Sfairer, Isitt, Ewing, Cocker, and Dallaston ; Secretary, Miss Kelly ; Treasurer, Miss Wilkinson. Superintendents of departments are to be elected at the next meeting. It was unanimously agreed that in future the meetings of the union shall be held in the rooms at Newtown. Miss Powell, New Zealand Corresponding Secretary of the Union, gitve an address in which she urged members to take up house-to-house visitation, and to work in connection with tie Prohibition League, in view of the general election next year. Afternoon tea was dispensed at the close of the meeting.
