His Worship also reminded the Council that when the Duke of Cornwall lajd the foundationstone of the Town. Hall, the trowel used on that occasion- was presented by Mr. Grady. The Council tendered its hearty thanks to Mr. Grady for his generous gift. The key, which is about six inches long, bears upon one side of the handle a reproduction in bright gold of the arms of the city in relief, and on the other side the inscription : " Presented to His Worship the Mayor, "John G. W. Aitken, Esq., M.H.R., upon the occasion of the opening of the Town Hall, Wellington, N.Z., Dec. 7th, 1904." ( Increasing notes of dissatisfaction with the new drivers' award are being sounded from Union quarters. Members of the Union will be called together next week to consider the award. One cause of discontent is that overtime, which used to be fixed at time and a quarter (la 3d per hour) for the first two hours, and time and a half (Is 6d) thereafter, has been reduced to Is for the first two hours, and Is 3d thereafter.
