THE PREMIER IN THE SOUTH.

« LIBERAL LABOUR CHARTER PRESENTED. AGGREGATION OF LARGE ESTATES. [BY TELEGRAPH — I'HESS ASSOCIATION.] DUNEDIK, 29th November. After the ceremony in connection with the railway opening had been completed to-day the Premier rode to Chatto Creek, eight miles distant, and presented a charter to the branch of the Liberal Labour Federation formed there. "Mr. Seddon said there was great work before the federation, since it ever there was a necessity for combination, with a view to holding on to the progressive laws of the present Government, now was the time. He went on to point to the danger of large tracts of country being in the hands of a few. In the North Island vast tracts had been acquired for a bottle of rum and some blankets. In Hum kes Bay 2s 6d an acre had been paid for land now worth £25 an acre. He paid a high tribute to the work done by Sir George Grey, Mr. Ballance, and Sir Robert Stout m the Liberal cause. He believed the time was not far distant when an Act would be passed making it illegal foi holders of large tracts of country to increase their holdings. He believed it would be a correct and proper law to pass. When thousands were unable to get an acre, he thought it time Parliament stopped the aggregation of large estates, 'i'he Premier spoke for an hour and a half. Mr. Seddon then drove back to Ophir, where a banquet was held.
