[riIESS ASSOCIATION.] NELSON, This Day. Yesterday being Good Templais' Sunday, a very large gathering of Sundayschool children, Bands of Hope, and Temperance Societies was held on the Botanic Reserve. A sum of about £80 has been raised in aid of the Collingwood Fire Relief Fund. INVERCARGILL, This Day. Mr. Henry Howells, a well-known hotelkeeper, and at one time handienpper for various southern racing clubs, died suddenly on Sunday, aged 75. The weather, which has been most unsettled right through the spring, has now taken up, and crops are coming on well. PAHIATUA,. This Day. The dwellinghouse of T. Darley, Mangaramarama, was destroyed by fire on Saturday night. Nothing was saved. The insurance amounted to £150.
To-day's Customs revenue totalled £1973 15s lid. At the last meeting of the Society for Protection of Women and Children, Mrs. W. A. Evans, M.A., presiding, the following subscriptions were acknowledged : Thomson, Lewis and Co., Mrs. W. R. E. Brown, Mrs. Downes, Mrs. Holgate, Mrs. Ronayne, Mr. P. Buller, Buller and Anderson, 5s each ; Mr. A. E. Blundell and Mrs. Anthony Wall, 10s each ; Mrs. A. Hoby, £1 Is. Miss Kate Stewart, of the Langer Dresscutting School, will give an exhibition of pupils' work at the Sydneyhtreet Schoolroom on Friday afternoon from 3 to 5 p.m.
