WELLINGTON AMATEUR ATHLETIC CLUB.

AUTUMN SPORTS MEETING. Some excellent sport was witnessed on Saturday afternoon by the large section of the public which took advantage of t\io fine weather to attend tho Wellington Amateur Athletic Club's sports | meeting at tho Basin Reserve. A brisk southerly wind behind the competitors was responsible for some good performances in the 100 yds events. The short distance events were robbed of much of their interest by the absence of L. B. Webster, the ex-champion. After a long absence from the track, M. M. Roseingrave made his re-appearance, but he was far from his best form. Goodbehero, the Wellington College .boy, gave a fine exhibition of his wonderful turn of speed over the short distances, and had no difficulty in annexing the two Intercollege events, winning Mr. L. Blundcll's Challenge Cup. During the afternoon R. Parker and W. J. Talbot gave an interesting exhibition of jujitsu. Mrs. Seddon presented the cross-country challenge cup to the winner, F. Ross. Won easily from a field of nine. Time, 10 1-osec. Second heat : H. H. Dawson, 4-^yds, 1; W. J. Wallace, syds, 2. Four others started. Time, lUsec, Third heat: R. Duft, 6yds, 1, G. S. Matthews, syds, 2. There were fhe other starters. Time, lOsec. Final beat': England, 1; Dawson, 2; Nagle, 3. A close finish saw England breast the tape with inches to spare. Time, lOsoc. Long Jump Handicap.— T. Craig (lft 6i,n), 21ft 2in, 1; W. H. Pollock (lft 6in), 20ft lin, 2; M. M. Roseingrave (scr.), 20ft, 3. Five othort) competed. 100 yds Intercollege Championship. — First heat: F. W. B. Goodbehero (Wellington College), 1 ; J. Kennedy (St. Patrick's College), 2. W. Moore (St. Patrick's) and O. J. Reid (Wellington) also started. Won by syds. Time, 10 2-ssec. Second .heat : D. Ferguson (Wellington College), 1; F. O'Connor (St. Patrick's), 2. W. Quill (St. Patrick's) and J. Nelson (Wellington) also started. Won by a foot. Time, llsep. . .Final : Goodbchere, 1 ; Kennedy, 2 ; Ferguson, 3. Goodbihere again won vjry easily in the good time of 10 l-ssec. One Milo Bicycle Handicap. — First heat: A. M'Carrison, 20yds, 1; G. Cole, 90yds, 2 ; H. Fisk, QOyds, 3. There were eight competitors, M'Carrison was the only* back marker to catch the field, and he won with little to spare. Time, 2min 44 2-ssec. Second heat: E. Cramp, 75yds, 1; E. Best, 30yds, 2; G. R. Gray, 90yds, 3. There were five other competitors. Time, 2min 40 4-ssec. Final heat: Best, 1; M'Carrison, 2; Cole, 3. The field quickly bunched, and coming with a strong run in the straight Best crossed the line with a yard to spare. Time, 2min 37sec. 'Mile Flat Handicap.— M. Burnett, 40 yds, 1; W. R. Carey, 65yds, 2; J. H. Prendeville, 15yds, 3. A large field faced the starter, and the pace was made warm from the pistol, the field being quickly weeded out. Prendoville, who Vras virtual scratch, gradually lessened the gap between himsrlf ahd tho-lead-ers, ibut failed to get up, being beaten for second place by Carey by Byds, Burnett winning by 10yds. Time, 4min 43 2-sscc. 120 yds Hurdles.— T. Craig (syds behind), 1 ; M. M. Roseingrave (10yds behind), 2; A. S. Henderson (syd3 beI hind), 3. W. H. Brewer (syds behind) also started. Roseingra\o caught Craig at the eighth fence, but the latter, finishing stronglj', won by 2yds, Henderson syds away third. Time, 17sec (standard time). Putting the Shot. — W. M. Rosengrave, | 31ft llin, 1; W. Wallace, 30ft 7£iu, 2; W. H. Brewer, 30ft liin, 3. There were eight competitors. Two-mile Walk.— F. K. W. Green, 250 yds, 1; P. FitzGerald, 180 yds, 2; T. E. Meston, 100 yds, 3. The only competitors. Won ou the tape. Time, 16min 55sec. 220 yds Handicap.— First heat : S. W. England, 20yds-, 1 ; R. Duff, 14yds, 2. England made the most of his liberal handicap and won comfortably by a yard. Time, 23|sec. Second heat: B. A. WeybouAie, 16yds. 1; J. J. Nagle, 12yds, 2; T. Craig, 3yds, 3. Craig made a good race on the 1 outside, but failed to get up. Time, 23|sec. Final heat: Weybourne 1, England 2, Nagle 3. A hot finish resulted in Weybourne winning by a foot. Time, 23|sec. Three-mile Bicycle Handicap. — First heat : A. M'Carrison, 60yds, 1 ; P. Withers, 240 yds, 2 ; H. Wolf, scratch, 3. v Five others competed, x The race was slow throughout. In the last lap M'Carrison caught the limit man and won by 30yds. Time, Bmin 59sec. Second heat: E. Cramp, 190 yds, 1 ; E. Best, 90yds, 2 ; J. Bonner, 180 yds, 3. Time, Bmin 59sec. Final heat : M'Carrison 1, Best 2, Withers 3. M'Carrison caught his field at the end of two miles, and won comfortably. Time, Bmin 38|sec. Three-mile- Flat Handicap.-7-J. H. Prendeville, scratch, 1; M. W. Preudeville, 70yds, 2 ; G. L. Fairchild. 180 yds, 3. Tho limit men maintained their advantage for a mile, when several of the starters dropped out. At the end of six laps Ross and J. PrendeVille, the scratch men, began to go up. At the end 'of two miles, Prendeville left his companion, and set out ill pursuit of the leaders. Full of running, he caught his field in the second lap, and led to the finish, winning by the straight from M. W. Prendeville. Several of the competitors were lapped. The winner received an ovatioh for hia good performance. Time, 16min 13sec. Gymnastic Competitions : Representatives from Harrison's Gymnasium and the V.M.C.A. Gymnasium competed in this event, which was won by R. L. Pagett (Harrison's) with 69i eointe, G. A. llur-

rell and W. Coventry, also from Harmon's, being second and third. Wrestling Competition.— Alexander, 1-; E. O'Connor, 2. High Jump Handicap. — A. Evenson, 7in, 1; W. H. Brewer, sm, 2; G. S. Matthews, 7in, 3. Evenson, who has a pretty style, won by 4in, with sft 9in (including handicap). 220 yds Public Schools' Championship. — • S. Fo'rbes (Clyde-quay), 1; J. Smith (To Aro), 2; J. Amies (Thorndon), 3. Won easily. Time, 27sec. 440 yds Inter-College Championship. — F. W. B. Goodbehere (Wellington College), 1; M. H. Oram (Wellington College), 2; T, 11. Shannon (Wellington College), 3. J. Nelson (Wellington) and E. Prendeville,. J. Kennedy, and W. Quin (St. Patrick's) also started. Goodbehere went to the front early, and stayed there, winning very comfortably by 3yds. Time, 55fsec. 440 yds Ladies' Brac&let.— H. J. T. Pollock, 35yds, 1; P. R. Pye-Smith, 35yds, 2; J. H. Prendeville, 20yds, 3. A large field started, from which Pollock won by inches. Time, Slgsec. One-mile Relay Race. — Wellington Amateur Athletic Club (M. Burnett, A. T. Milner, M'Lauchlan, and W. Pollock), 1; Wellington Harriers (T. E. Meston, Robinson, Marshall, and S. W. England), 2. These were the only competing teams. Won easily.
