BUTCHERS' PICNIC.
THE- TWENTY-FOURTH ANNUAL OUTING. The twenty-fourth picnic organised by the butchers of Wellington was held at Day's Bay yesterday, perfect summer weather prevailing for the outing. Hitherto the picnics were organised by a joint committee of master and operative butchers, but yesterday's outing was an exception to the rule, the Operative Batchers' Union having the whole controL The following. were the officials: — President, Mr. A. Cheesman ; Vice-Preeident, Mr. W. Ballantyne ; Hon. Treasurer, Mr. W. Parker ; Hon. Secretary, Mr. P. J. Oakley ; Judges, Messrs. Woolland, Worth, and Boecker; Handicappers, Messrs. Robinson and Ballantyne ; Starter, Mr. J. Richmond; Committee, Messrs. Finnigan, Hughes, Lindsay, Rudkin, Phillips, Morris, Williams, Northwood, Francis, Hogarth, and Chambers. * At the luncheon a short toast list was gone through. The toast, "The Master Butchers of. Wellington," was proposed by Mr. J A.*' Cheesman, and responded to by Mr. F. R. Bust. Mr. Woolland gave the toast of "The Operative Butchers' Union," to which Mr. P. J. Oakley responded. The committee was indefatigable in attending to its duties, and Jupp's Band added no small measure of enjoyment to the outing. The following were the results of the events on tho sports programme, for which numerous trophies were given by the business people of the city : — Race for Riders-out.— Drury 1, Webb 2, Fin.ay 3. Order-cart Drivers' Race.— Kileen 1, Rosson 2, Morris 3. Butchers' Giand Handicap.— First heat — T. Brown 1, Lindsay 2, Rudkin 3. Second heat--H. Brown 1, Findlay 2, T. Brown 3. Third heat— H. Brown 1, T. Brown 2, Findlay 3. Aggregate, H. Brown (gold medal) 1, T. Brown (silver medal) 2, Findlay (trophy) 3. Race for drivers of Hawkers' Cart. — H. Brown 1, Rudkin 2, Willison 3. Shopmen's Race.— Slinn 1, D. Collins 2, J. Williams. 3. Master Butchers' Race.— Slinn 1, Worth 2, Woolland 3. Potato Race. — Morris 1, Buck 2. Visitors' Race. — Cowley 1, Lauchlan 2, M'Guire 3. Boys' Race, under 15.— Webster 1, Rule 2, Ryan 3.
