LONDON MARKETS [press association.] (Received October 31, 9.24 a.m.) LONDON, 30th October. Canterbury sheep, light, 4- 5-16 d; medium, 4- 3-16 d; heavy, 4d. New Zealand beef, ox hinds, 2 13-16 d; rest unaltered. The New Zealand hemp market is steady and good business is reported. October and December shipment sold at £31. Copper — On tho spot, £61 13s 9d ; three months, £62 Is 3d. Silver, 2s 2 id. Messrs. Abraham and Williams report: —At Palmerston— Fat ewes 18s Id to 225, fat and forward ditto 17s 6d, store ewes 15s to 15s 9d, ewes and lambs 21s Bel, hoggets 14s 9d to 16s 10d, fat and forward ewes (shorn) 13s. Fat bullocks £7 4s 6d, £7 ss, £7 6s 6d, £8 Is 6d, and £8 6s 6d; forward bullocks £3 7s 6d to £4 12s 6d ; springing heifers £4 10s to £6, backward ditto i/3 7s 6d, weaners 28s to 30s, empty cows £2 10s to £4. AGENT-GENERAL'S REPORT. The Department of Industries and Commerce has received | the following cablegram from the Agen't-Gencral, dated London, the 29th instant : — "The mutton market is depressed ; average price to-day for Canterbury mutton is 4id per lb; for Dunedin, Southland', and W.M.E. Co. mutton, 4id per lb ; for brands other than Worth Island mutton, 4cl per lb (weak). -The average price to-day for River Plate mutton is 3^d per lb ; Australian mutton is in small supply and is realising 3£d per !lb. There is a dull sale for all descriptions of lamb ; average price for New Zealand lamb, Canterbury brands, is from stjd to s|d per lb : for brands other than Canterbury, Sid. The beef markot has suffered a further decline ; average price to-day for hindquarters of New Zealand beef is 2£d per lb, fores 2id per lb. The butter market is quiet and prices are rather unsettled: stored) New Zealand is soiling at from 90e to 94s (irregular), Australian 1038, Danish 115s. The cheese market is steady at quotation cabled you last week. A good Business hag been done in hemp, but the market closed dull. Average price of New Zealand hemp, good fair Wellington grade, on spot to-day is £30 10s per ton ; January to March phipmonts, £30 per ton. Price of Manila hemp, fair current grade, on spot to-day is £38 lOh. Thero i* scarcely any demand for cocksfoot seed ; average price to-day for bright clean Now Zealand cocksfoot seed weighing 171b per bushel on spot is 51s per cwt. Tho market for Tops (wool) remains firm, with no change in prices. The following are tho current quotations for grain: — New Zealand long-berried wheat 'on spot, ex granary, per Quarter 4961b, 33s 6d, short-berried wheat 32s 6d ; the wheat markot iB quiet but firm. New Zealand oats, short (sparrowbills), ex granary, on. spot, per quarter of 3841b, 21s ; Danish, ex granary on spot, per quarter of 3201b, 16s 9d: tho oat market is steadier.
