SELLING BEER WITHOUT A LICENCE.
[BY TELKGIIAPH — PRESS ASSOCIATION.] | INVERCARGILL, This Day. At the Police Court tcr-day John Lewis Whittiugham was convicted of selling beer at Mandeville without being licensed to do so. Defendant's brewery is in Gore-, within the Mataura no-license district, but he took orders at Mandeville, which is in the Wakatipu licensing area. The Magistrate held that the license only permitted him to sell at the brewery. The fixing of a penalty was deferred. At a large meeting of the Catholics of the HutD Parish, it was resolved to hold their annual picnic on Boxing Day in Father Lane's grounds. The Collector of Customs held a preliminary enquiry this morning into^ the' stranding of the steamer Hirnitangi at thing further will be heard of the matthing further wil Ibe «card of the matter. Before Mr. Chapman and Mr. Cudby, Justices, at the Hutt Court this morning, Michael O'Connor was sentenced to one month's imprisonment for using obscene language.
