THE BRITISH PROTEST.
IMMEDIATE REPARATION DEMANDED. THE CALLOUSNESS OF THE RUSSIANS! LONDON, 25th October. Lord Lansdowne has informed Sir H. Seymour King' M.P. for Hull, that a very lengthy and 1 vigorous protest has been despatched to the British Ambassador at St. Petersburg and to Count BenckendorfT, Russian Minister at London, asking for an immediate explanation and reparation. A" special point is made of the callousness of the Russians in not rendering assistance. Mr. John Taylor, shipowner, of Hull, has telegraphed to Mr. Baifour, Prime Minister, appealing for the speediest and strongest measures for full redress and for complete security against further outrage. Mr. Baifour baa telegraphed to the Mayor of York:— "You may have full confidence in the Government." The Daily Express .states that ViceAdmiral Lord Charles Beresford, who commands the Channel Squadron, has been ordered to 1 coal his fleet at Gibraltar and await orders, with steam up. ' ■*.
