WELLINGTON - LYTTELTON FERRY SERVICE. ' THE NEW ARRANGEMENTS. Details in connection witK- the WellingtonLyttelton ferry service consequent on the improved train services to Christchurch have come to hand:— ' T he Moraroa will take up her running from Lyttelton on luesday. Ist prox., and in conjunction with the Rotomahani, will' mate daily sailings between the two ports. As the new railwSy services begin on Ist November, it has been decided that the Mararoa and Rotomahana alternately shall leave Lyttelton at 6.30 p.m. on arrival of the first express tram from Duuedin, so as to arrive in Wellington next morning in time to permit of passengers connecting with the express trains leaving at 9.10 a.m. for Wanganui and New Plymouth and at 9.30 a.m. for Napier. As the daily Bteam service between New Plymouth and Onehunga will also start on Ist November, and the steamer awaits at New Plymouth the arrival of the express train from Wellington, this arrangement will allow passengers leaving Dunedin by the' first express at 8 o'clock in the morning to reach Auckland in 50 hours. It has been arranged that on Saturdays the East CoastAuckland steamers — Talune. and Tarawera— shall be detained at Lyttelton till 11.30 p.m. for the arrival of the second express. This will give an opportunity for passengers from Invcrcirgill to get through to Wellington in 29 hours. The Railway Department haß arranged for the express trains to go direct alongside the ferry steamers at Lyttelton, without stopping at the Lyttelton Railway Station. This should be a great convenience to the travelling public, and will enable the steamers to be despatched promptly on arrival of the train from Christchurch. The ferry steamers will leave Wellington at 7.45 p.m., on arrival of tho express trains from Wanganui, New Plymouth, and Napier, connecting with the first express leaving Christchurch for Dunedin and Invercargill at 10.10 a.m. Arrangements will be made for passengers to leave the steamer immediately on arrival at Lyttelton or Wellington, and for their convenience a light repast, consisting of tea and coffee with bread -and butter, will be served in the dining sfiloon from 6 a.m. to 7.30 a.m. Those who desire to remain on beard for breakfast will be served with 6ame at Is 6d each. VICTORIA LEAVF.S SYDNEY. Advice has been received by the HuddartParker Company that the steamer Victoria left Sydney direct for Wellington at 2 o'clock on Saturday afternoon. The vessel ii bringing 200 passengers and 1000 tons of cargo , £ ew , Ze » lnnt l, including 550 tons of cargo for Wellington. She is due here about midday on Wednesday, and will continue her voyage to Melbourne via the South and Hobart on Thursday afternoon. THE ATHENIO. The local agents of the Shaw-Savill Company have been advised of a further alteration in the time-table of the Athenic, which is now loading at the Glasgow Wharf, and was to have sailed for Lyttelton on Saturday. The steamer is now to sail for Gisborne on Thursday, and will then go ou to Lyttelton, returning to Wellington to complete loading, and sailing finally for London on the 10th November. THE HUDDART - PARKER COMPANY. It is understood that the new HuddartParker liner Wimmera, due in Australia about the 25th of next month, will sail from Melbourne on her maiden trip to New Zealand about the 14th December, replacing the Viotoria, which vessel will leave Sydney the same day for Auckland in place of the Zealandia. The Zealandia will then be laid up to undergo her survey. According to the Shipping Gazette and Lloyd's List, Captain J. B. Ranson, formerly of the lonic, and more recently of the s.s. Arabic, has succeeded Captain Lindsay, of the Celtic. The Taieri is to come off the Patent Slip tnis afternoon, and will sail for Westport this evening. She is expected to return to Wellington about Thursday next with a carco of coal. The Talune, due from Auckland, Gisborne, and Napier to-morrow morning, has 400 tons of cargo to land here. The Rotomahana, sailing for Lyttelton this evening, will take a shipment of 40 head of cattle. The Union Company has been advised that the Wainui, from Wellington, Picton, and wehon, arrived at Westport at 11 o'clock last night, a«d continued her voyage to Greymouth tt 6 o'clock this morning. The Union Company's steamer Rosamond left Greymouth on Saturday for Napier. After discharging her cargo in the North the vessel is to come on to Wellington to go on tn^ Patent Slip for her annual overhaul. She U due here about Thursday next. Mr. Evans, chief officer of the Hauroto, who is being relieved by Mr. Lacey, late of the Manaroa, has been granted two months leave of absence in order to put in his naval reserve drill at Sydney. The barque West York had a rough handling on the run from Wellington to Westport. The vessel lost a suit of Bails, and ran before the gale With a rag of a foresail. She was practically unmanageable, and narrowly escaped being wrecked on the Brothers. Mr. D. M. Gillies, second engineer of the Waikare, was the recipient of a presentation from the officers and engineers of the vessel on the occasion of his mai-nage. The Northern Company's steamer Rarawa, which ia coming to Wellington to go on the Patent Slip, left New Plymouth for this port this morning.
