PERSONAL MATTERS,
Professor Bickerton, of Christchurch, arrived in Wellington lasb night. Mrs. Chaße-Morris, of Feilding, leaves Wellington this afternoon on a visit to Australia:. Professor Bickerton arrived from Christchurch this morning. He is staying ivitn Mr. J. A. Connell, of Hanson-atreet. Mr. and Mrs. Street, of Ceylon and London, who have jjust completed a tour of New Zealand, leave for Sydney by the Waikare this afternoon. Major J. Whitney, general manager {or Australia for the Colonial Ammunition Co., leaves Wellington for Sydney by the Waikare this afternoon. The Rev. F. W. Isitt, Secretary of the New Zealand Alliance, left for the South yesterday, and will be absent from Wellington fox six or seven weeks. Mr. James Caldwell, M.P. for MidLanarkshire, Mrs. and Miss Mazondier, of Sydney, and Mr. Layng, of San Francisco, are staying at the Empire Hotel. Lswiy Plunket leaves hy the Waikare for Sydney this afternoon, accompanied by t^e Hon. Kathleen Plunket and Cjidtain BraiUxwaite, A.D.Q, on a months visit to Victoria. Capfc. the Hon. F. L. Langdale, M.L.C., agent at Fiji for Messrs. Lever Bros.' Pacific Plantations, Limited, was ■> passenger from Fiji by the steamer N&vua, which arrived last evening. News has been received of the death in London of Mr. M. Hallenstein, brother of Mr. Bendix Hallenstein, of Dunedin, Mr. Percy Hallenstein, general manager of the D.1.C., and Mr. Emil Hallenstein, a director of that company are sons of the deceased. Lient. Lindsay, of the 7th Dragoon Guards, leaves Wellington with Mrs. Lindsay for England next Thursday. Lieut. Lindsay, who served in South Africa with New Zealand's First Contingent, rejoins bis regiment at the «nd of the year. Mr. George Barnes, the well-known business representative for Mr. George Musgrove's travelling companies, arrived from Melbourne by the Waikare this morning. Mr. Barnes is now associated with Mr. George Stephenson's theatrical enterprises. The following visitors to> the colony are staying at the Royal Oak Hotel : — Messra. O. M. and R. H. Royale, of tfpttingh.am, England; W. G. Symmons and James Muir, of London ; F. L. Langdak, of Levuka, Fiji; G. P. Griffith, of Sydney; and 0. F. Broad, of Melbourne. On leaving the employ of the New .Zeafayad Electrical Syndicate yesterday to become, engineer-in-charge at the electric trawwaj poww-house, Mr. Peter M'Coll was made a. presentation by the staff at the syndicate's works. The manager (Mr. G. S. Maben) and Mr. F. Dyer (a menaber of the directorate) spoke highly of Mr. M'Coll's ability, and regretted that be was leaving them. Mr, M'Coll , j» succeeded at the Electrical Syndicate's >»rorks by, Mr. A. Roy.
