PROPOSED PETONE AND HUTT DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL. TO THE EDITOR.

Sir, — There seems to be some difference of opinion as to 1 a site for the school, whether it should be at the Hutt or in Petone. The Petone residents asserts that their claims are much greater than those of the Hutt people. If Petone and Lower Hutt residents were all that are to be considered, no doubt Petone should have the prior right; but I would suggest that the school should be available for the whole of the Hutt district, from Petone at the one end to the Upper Hutt at the other ; and in justice to all, it seems to me that the school should be situated at some convenient place between the two extremes. — I am, etc., CENTRAL. Wellington, 17th October.

The Collector of Customs, Mr. D. Johnson, held a preliminary enquiry today into the circumstances connected with the stranding of the four-masted barquentine Addenda. The papers have been forwarded to the Marine Department. In the Vivian-street Citadel of the Salvation Army last evening the members of the Wellington Banjo, Mandolin, and Guitar Band, under the leadership of Mr. J. G. Turner, gave an excellent programme of instrumental music. A dulcimer solo and a banjo solo were given by Mr. J. G. Turner; "Adeste Fideles," "Alice, Where Art Thou?" and "II Trovadore" on the violin by Mr. J. Woodward ; while Miss N. Simpson, a young lady flautist, gave two items, and Miss A. Cairns, Mr. C. Reid, and Mr. M. A. Keeman played mandolin items. Altogether the programme was a particularly good one, and the large audience was very enthusiastic. T]he proceeds go to to self-denial effort. ' Mr. Justice Chapman, President of the Arbitration Court, has fixed Tuesday, the Bth November, as the date for the sitting of the Court at Masterton, and Friday, 11th November, as the date for Dannevirke The sittings at Napier, Palmerston Nort,h, and Wanganui will probably bl arranged next week*
