ALLEGED THEFT OF CATTLE
[BY TELEO.RAFH — PKBSS ASSOCIATION.] PAHIATUA, This Day. ' At a "sitting of the Court yesteraay, before Mr. W. James, S.M., John Lankey, of Pongaroa, was committed for trial on a charge of stealing three head of cattle belonging to another Pongaroa settler named Swan. The accused reserved his defence. Bail was allowed, himself in one security of £200, and two sureties of £100 each.
The American barque Addenda, which went ashore in Palliser Bay during last week's storm, is built of soft wopd, and is eight years old. She is not insured. Her master, Captain Astrup, who is about thirty years of age, has arrived in Wellington, but will return to the vessel as soon as he has ascertained whethei the owners (the Simpson Lumber Company) are prepared to make an effort to get her off the beach. Mr. K.
