Numerous tents havq< been erected upon the lawns, and in the House a stage has been built in the baU< room for the purpose of the coinedie» that are to be produced on Thursday and Friday evenings The fete is to be open« ed by His Excellency the Governor at 3 o'clock on Thursday afternoon, and the' grounds will be open to the public oa payment of the admission fee on each day from 2to 6.30. Company begin at 8 p.m. Seats for these per." formances may be booked at the Dresden, but the ticket will not admit to thai fete in the afternoon. The Garrison Band is to play during each afternoon, and there will be numerous sideshow's, for each of which an extra charge will be made* Many entries have been received for tha hat-trimming competitions, especially from men amateurs. An interesting exhibition was given bj the pupils attending Miss Estelle Beere'a dancing classes, at the Sydney-street. Schoolroom yesterday afternoon. Thdi company present included Lady Plunket and a party from Government House, and additional interest was lent to the proceedings by the fact that the pupils included three of Lord and Lady Plunket's children. The exhibition as a whole' wae» highly creditable, both to Miss Beere and her pupils. A concert in aid of the funds of To Aro School was held in St. John's Schoolroom last night. Every seat waa occupied. Vocal items were contributed by Misses Winnie Birch and Lenore Pulsford, Mr. C, Zachanah and Master Roy Minifie, and the school children sang 1 some choruses, and went through some drill. A flute duet was given -by Messrs, C. J. Hill and Grigg, and Minifies Orchestra played- several selections. , Mr. o. Minifie, jun., gave one of the lat« Mel. B. Spurr's monologues. The piano-, forte accompaniments to the songs wero played by Mrs. Barker, Misses Bennett and Minifie, and Mr. Wicks. On ihe .notion of Mr. C. Watson, Headmaster ol the Willis-street School, a vota.of thanks was passed to all who had assisted at tho concert. A social gathering and dance are adver . tised to take place at the New Century Hall to-morrow evening at 8 o'clock. The Rev. J. Gibb will lecture at tho Nevrtown Public Library to-morrow evening on "Drumtocty Sketches; an Interpretation of Scottish Life and ChaTv acter."
