CRICKET.

The Committee of the Wellington Association met at the Exchange Building last night. Mr. M. F. Luckie was appointea Chairman for the ensuing season. A letter was, read from the Canterbury Association suggesting that the Wellington match be played at Christchurch on 24th, 26th, and 27th December. The dates proposed by the local committee early last month were the 23rd, 24th, and 26th December. The commiftee is desirous of embracing Otago in the Southern tour this season, and as no definite dates were before the meeting from Dunedin, the Christchurch proposal was held over pending further information from the Otago Association. The committee accepted the use of the four wickets at the Athletic Park, four at Day s Bay, three at Johnsonville, and one at the St. Patrick's College ground at Berhampore. Owing to limited space no practice wickets are available for the W.M. Railway and the Harbour Board teams on the Basin Reserve. The newly-formed Austral Club was admitted to the Association on a senior status. The question of providing practice wickets for the Austral, Gas Co., Albion, and Union Clubs was referred to the Ground Committee, a position to be filled this season by Messrs. A. Ashbolt, C. E. Stevens, and E. F. Upham. His Excellency Lord Plunket wrote accepting the office of Patron of the Association. Mr. J. P. Firth acknowledged his election as Vice-President, and supported the funds of the Association by two guineas. (Applause.) The entries for the championships total 39 — Seniors 7, Juniors 12, Third-class 16, Fourthclass 8. The entries for the first three divisions were anticipated in last Saturday's issue. The lowest division includes teams from the Wellington, Midland, Old Boys, Phoenix, Newtown, Johnsonville, Wadestown, and St. Patrick's College. The wickets available are Basin Reserve 4, Athletic Park 4, College Ground 3, Day's Bay 4, Johnsonville 3, and one each at Karori, Waiwetu, and Berharnpore. The Championship Committee is to be instructed to classify the wickets for the various competitions, and to inspect where necessary any new pitches coming under the Association's control. One senior match is to be played at the Athletic Park. The application from Karori and St. Patrick's College to play the majority of their engagements on their respective wickets was referred to the Third-class Committee. Mr. C. E. Stevens stated it was impossible at the present stage, on account of the vagaries of the weather, to say when rjractico could commence on the Basin Reserve. The press would be informed as soon as the ground was in a fit state to allow of practice being started. The same speaker, on behalf of the Championship Committee, informed the meeting that the rule for starting of matches would be strictly enforced. The committee adjourned for a wee^- ,
