The Daily Mail states that Captain Rawhns is taking a party from Gyangtse to explore the vast unmapped lef ton westward of Shigatse. He returns* by the old Hmdustan-Tibet roati [The northern part of Tibet has been pretty thoroughly explored and mapped by Dr. Sven Hedin. He met with no interference from the Tibetans until he got close to Lhassa, when he was politely requested to turn back by a body of Tibetan horsemen. The route of Captain Rawhns will probably be over the country lying between Shigatse and Gartok and Len on ..he upper Indus, along which one of the chief highways to Tibet runs.] BRITISH TRADE. - LONDON, Ist October. The agreement between the banks which has existed for a long time past in regard to the rate of exchange on London has been dissolved, each institution now making its own quotations. The majority have quoted 12s 6d per cent, discount for buying at 2s 6d per cent, premium for selling, at sixty days. A BRITISH LOAN. LONDON, 2nd October. The Government is inviting tenders, closing on Thursday, for six million ,3 per cent. Exchequer bonds, with a currency of five years. The loan has been favourably received, and is expected to average about 89£. ■TrIAGEDY NEAR SYDNEY. SYDNEY, 2nd October. As the outcome of a lovers' quarrel at Redfern, a young girl named Bena Donohuo fired two shots into the neck of Frank Adams. She then shot herself dead. The man is in a precarious condition. THE FISCAL PROBLEM. (Received October 3, 10.51 a.m.) MELBOURNE, This Day. Mr. Deakin regards the messages sent by Messrs. Burns and Bell to Mr. Watson regarding the fiscal issue as merely electioneering manifestoes, being used by the British Opposition at bye-elec-tions. He does not think they were sent on behalf of the workmen of Britain.
