LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. The Council met at 2.30 p.m. The Hon. I<\ 11. li'miicr gave notice to tmovo that the Standing Order* bo suspended to allow the Wellington City Leasing Bill to be proceeded with. Tho Hon. T. K. Macdonald moved that the evidence taken before the Local Billn (Juimmlleo in rcferenco to tho Wellington City Leaning Bill be printed. Ho urged that no member could thoroughly uiulorslaud the hcopo of fhe Bill unlohs he had uu opportunity of reading the evidence. The Hon. l'\ 11. Fraser thought tbut if tho pa-ssugo of the Bill were to be delayed until the evidence wore printed, it might not gel through this session — a viow in which he was supported by tho Hon. G. M'Lean, who pointed out that the evidence could bo laid on tho table, and there been by the members. Tho motion wao agreed to by 23 votes to 7. The report of the conference of managers from tho House and Council on the Police Offences Act Amendment Bill was agreed to. When the third reading of tho Education Acts Compilation Bill was called on, the Attorney-General moved it& discharge, iv order that it might bo referred to a special committee of the Council for examination to test the accuracy of tho compilation. This was agreed to. A similar course was adopted with reopect-to tho Divorce and Matrimonial Causes Acts Compilation and Marriago Acts Compilation Bills. (Left sitting.)
