Hewitt had the mount on Martian. Abundance was the first to show in front fiom an excellent start. Highflyer led out of the straight, wtth St. Modan, Fairy States, Palmist, Cakewalk, Martian following. In the next furlong, St. Modan had command and passed tho mile post with a couple of lengths advantago of Highflyer, Fitiegrafton, and Tartnn. Going along tho back, Martian ran into third place. St. Modan maintained tho lead to tho turn, Where Tartan went nfter him with Fitzgrafton and Martian in attendance. As they swept into the straight, Alius came very fast. Tartan disposed of St. Modan at the distanco, but at the half distanco Alias cub down the leader and won by two lengths, Cato finishing well up third, » followed by Fairy States and Cakewalk, while Martian and Grand Rapids were a long way back. Time, 2inin 34£ sec. First Steeplechaso, a handicap sweepstakes of 6 soys oacb, with 300 soys added ; about two miles and a half. — Mr. L.
