». , Bishop Mules, of Nelson, was a passenger by tho Penguin, which arrived last night. Dr. Valintine, District Health Officer, is in tho Tarannki District on departmental business. Tho passengers from the South by the Takapuna- to-day included tho Hon. E. O. J. Slovons, Messrs. It. H. Rhodes nnd T. Taylor, M.H.R.'s, and tho Government Biologisb (Mr. T. W. Kirk). Mr. Bullen, Misses Bullen (2), of Kaikoura, Dr. Morkane, of tho Southern West Coast, and Mr. and Mrs. Worsloy, of Nelson, aro slaying at tho Empiro Hotel. Mr. Harold Gregson, organist of St. Paul's Church, Napier, is in town, having returned from Christchurch, whore lie gave an orgnn recital laat week. Mr. Grogson, who is staying at the Empire Hotel, will probably give a recital in Wellington later in tho year. Mr. and Mrs. Paderowski are to bo entertained at dinner by Lord and Lady Plunket at Government House J&is evening. The celebrated pianist and his party are staying at the. Empire Hotel — not at tho RoyaP Oak Hotel, as previously stated. Mr. E. G. Allen, member for Port Chalmers, surprised a Petone audience last night when ho stated that he was one of the first householders in the township. There- wero only two houses in the place, and he occupied one and Henry Te Puni tho other. Ho was employed* in connection with tho laying .down of the present railway line through the district. Tho members of tho Courtenay-ploce Congrogational Church have sent a "call" to tno Rev. F. Warner, of Carlton (Melbourne) to toko up the pastorate of tho church in succession to the Rev. W. Newman Hall, whoso ministry in. Wellington is to terminate in Novembec next. Mr. Warner is an ex-Secretary of the Congregational Union of New Zealand, and occupied that position until he loft Auckland, some four or five years ago to becomo assistant to Dr. Bovan in tho Collins-street Church in Melbourne.
