CITY COUNCIL.
The fortnightly meeting of tho City Council was held last evening. Present : His Worship the Mayor (Mr. J. G. W. Aitken), and Councillors Smith, Wiltshire, Bnrber, Godber, Cohen, Keene, Jorgensen, Frost, Evans, M'Laren, and Luke. Apologies were received for the absence of Councillors Devine nnd Izard. On the motion of Councillor Luke, Councillor Winder was granted two months' additional leuvo of absence The following recommendations of tho Public Works Committee .were adopted : That \ht> offer of Mr. W. Mansfield to sail his property at Karori to tha Council bo not entertained ; that the application of Mrs. C. Unylis for permission to niter the name of Express-avenue to Pen-rose-avenue Bo grunted ; that a reply be forwarded to the Vogeltown Ratepayers' Association, in. terms of the City Engineer's report, with reference tp the nppJicntion for a footpath from Wrightstreet to Vogeltown (tbis practically moans that the request of the association has been refused) ; that the Wellington Hnrbour Board be informed that the Council will bear half the cost of extending the drainage to their now store at Customhouße-OjUay ; tbat the City Engineer's report with reference to the taking over of the road through the Karori Waterworks 'Reserve ba adopted ; that the report of tho City Engineer with reference to traction engine traffic over tramlines be referred to the Bylaws Committee •'for consideration; that the horse trough in Confctablo-utreet be removed to Daniol-street, and- thnt the trough in Cuba-street be removed to Webb-street ; thnt the Engineer's report with reference to effecting necessary repairs to the Htitt pipo bridge be approved ; that -Mr. W. A. Waters be allowed two months in which to enrry out repairs to proporty nt Woolcombe-street required by (be Public Health Department; that effect by given to tho recommendation of tho City Engineer regarding repairs to drain at Hill-street through Parhhmenb Buildings grounds.
