(Received September 3, 8.12 a.m.) LONDON, 2nd September. Tokio admits that tho battle round Liaoyang u;as drawn when the soldiers bivouacked ou Wednesday. At dawn on Thursday, after a fierce and daring assault, the Japanese captured Ntnuchtut Heights, piercing tho Russian lino, whereupon tho Hussion troops south of Liaoyang commenced to retreat, the Japaneso vigorously pursuing them. Marshnl Oyama re-ported tliat tho Japane.so lo.<*»os were heavy. General Kuroki's division alone, between tho 24th and 28th, had 2225 casualties. Military critics concur that the object of the furious en en tin tew at the southern front was to hold the Russians while General Kuroki crossed tho Taitso River unopposed, in order to block tho Russian retreat.
