THE LAND TENURE QUESTION.
PREMIER TO MOVK FOR ENQUIRY. 4. COMPREHENSIVE PROGRAMME. --The question of land tenure will probably be discussod at an early dato, when the Premier will move* for the appointment of the Royal Commission mentioned in the Speech from tho Throne. The Colonial Secretary (Sir Joseph Ward) this afternoon, on behalf of the Premier, gavo notice to move : "That, with a view to further encouraging and promoting land settlement and removing any anomalies and disabilities if found to exist, it is advisable that enquiry be made in respect to the constitution of Land Boards, tho tenures upon which lands may bo obtained; and occupied, and ■whether Crown tenants labour under restneiious which are inimical to their well-b^ing and unnoceasary -in the interests of tike State. Also, to. ettquiro aud adriso whether tho residential conditions now existing are too exacting and require rekecing, andi as to whether, owing to the varying conditions oxistjng in respect to the climate and 10-nd configuration in the several parte of tho colony, an alteration and variation in the law regarding tenure and occupation is necessary. Also, as to the reintroduction of tho homc»tetid privileges; and as to the working of the present ballot system and the dealing with application? for land; find, lastly, to report generally the result of their investigations in regard to tho condition and position of those of our coionists holding and occupying the lands of tho State under tho several tenures now obtaining." ____________
