A FALSE TELEGRAM.

At tho Police Court to-day, David Gibson, alias Mason, alias Batty, woschurged with caiming n telegraphic message, purporting to bo signed by " Kdward Manon," (o be sent, such message being ftigned without the authority of tho said Edward Mason. The ovidonco showed that tho message had been sent to Mr. F. G. Tabart, auctioneer, Christchurch, and was signed "E. Mason." Tho lattor is a farmer near Chri«tohurch, and was conducting business transactions with Mr Tabact. The telegram contained a request for £80. Arrangements wera mado to send the money, but Mr. Tabart, becoming suspicious, •cimcelled payment, and accused was arrested. Accused, through his solicitor, pleaded guilty. It wns stated ho wn» a gruzior, and had bought property in Ilawkes Bay for which he paid £600. A fino ot £50 was inflicted.
