THE VANCOUVER SERVICE. CANADA CANNOT EXTEND IT TO NEW ZEALAND.
During the discussion on tho Post uml Telegraph Department's Estimates in the House on Friday last, Six Joseph Ward stated that ho had sent a eocond cablegram, to tho Canadian Government urging it to agree to Now Zealand being made a port of call for the Vancouver mail service. In tho Tlouso this afternoon, Sir Joseph said ho had received tho following reply from tho Deputy Postmaster-General at Ottawa: — " This Department considers dolay caused by steamers calling at Auckland would Fciimisly impede tho service Regret, theiefore, Imnblc agreo proposition." Sir Joseph Ward went on to say that apparently nothing furthei could be expected from Canada, as this was Iho second lefusnl of tho request Now Zealand had had from the Canadian Government.
