THE ELECTRIC TRAMWAYS.
'A PROGRESS REPORT. The 'tracks along Upper Cuba, 'W.eijb,, Hopper, Hankey, und Douglas Wallace streets still remain unfilled. The reason, given 'for this delay is the scarcity of road metal, which 'is required for the filling-iiu In the meantime the centre df these thoroughfares cannot bo used by vehicles, anol the remaining portions of the roads-are being cut up to such an extent that tha Corporation will practically have to reconstruct tho whole of the roadway. Tho Corporation is reconstructing Tina- ■ kori-road from the Boteuical 'Gardens along tho now route, which had been b.adly cut up owing to the delay in filling up fho • track. The Corporation gangs are busily eu- ' gaged in concreting the eastern side of Cuba-street, and nearly the whole of tha concrete b«d is now put down. Tb,o full width of this street has been wood-paved, from Messrs. Veitch an£ Allan's corner down to t!he front of Mr. Godber's shop. ' Tho whole of the track «nd the western , side has been paved, and the "floating" ia now being placed upon tho concrete bed on the eastern side post Mr. Godber's, the gang -working down towards the Royal , Oak Hotel. A portion of Ingestre-street has heea wood-paved, and excellent progress is betng made with the work along that thoroughfare and~Vivian-street down to Cata-bridge-terrace. Councillor Barber haft given notice of his intention to mo«e at Thursday's meeting of tho City Council : "That a* committee be appointed to enquire into <Uie reason why the Oriental Bay section of the electric tramway is not open for public use*.*'
